My next project is based around the Sandstone Trail in Cheshire. I went there with fellow artist Mike Cooke to do some initial sketching and taking photos.

So after some more work on this painting today, it may be finished.
Grand Central FedEx - Oil on Board - 85 x 61cm

I've been away from my studio for nearly 2 months now and this painting has been waiting impatiently for me to get back to it, so today I have worked into it. Not feeling very motivated at the moment but it was about time.
This another representation of Grand Central Station Birmingham using one of my photomontages as a starting point.

Since the pandemic my work has been focused on City and Townscapes. Initially Worcester, followed by Birmingham, then Droitwich and back to Birmingham. I wanted to find ways to express these places and decided to cut and paste photomontages of the places from which to work.

Walking around Birmingham one day with some good friends I was completely bowled over by the reflections of the city in the cladding that is a feature of Grand Central Station. Once again I used my own photos to produce a montage and this led to a number of works on paper and eventually to an oil painting.

My next project was a composite image of my home town Droitwich. I spent a few hours taking photos of the town and once again created a photomontage from which to work. I made a number of pieces on paper which finally led to an oil painting. All the main features of Droitwich are there somewhere, Chateau Impney, Lido Park with its bandstand and wood sculpture, the canal, the old brine pump, the Raven Hotel, the statue of St. Richard, the sculpture of the brine family and the thriving coffee culture centre (with me Ferly and friends). Gradually things are becoming more abstracted.
DROITWICH REVISITED

Back to Birmingham, this time I've focused on the entrance to Grand Central Station. Again I created a photomontage to get me going.
REFLECTIONS OF GRAND CENTRAL

The next works looked at another aspect of Grand Central Station and in thr process the images became more abstract. Again the work stemmed from a photomontage. This time paying more attention to what was happening around and about.

As we are all too familiar 2020 saw much of the world struggling with the COVID pandemic and enforced lockdowns. It was a tragic time for many and has left a mark on us all. My wife Ferly caught Covid from work (she is a carer) and she was desperately ill for 5 weeks. I somehow managed to escape any ill effects and apart form worrying about Ferly I was desperate to continue working. Looking over my back garden fence there was a ready made, although ever changing panorama of trees that would keep me isolated for much if the time but still working. I've been in my present bungalow for over 10 years now, why haven't I seen them as a subject before.
I started working form the in the late winter early spring of 2020 and spent many days each week just recording the changes they underwent until January 2021. Luckily trees don't catch Covid, do they? Much of the work I did during those months is relatively small scale using various media but there are one or two larger pieces on paper and one large scale Acrylic Painting that took up much of July and August.
